News : DNS Update

GentooxIf you're reading this... welcome back! I finally have my new router (took about 2 days to install Gentoo) in place, however, a new router means a new MAC address, and a new MAC address means a new IP from my ISP. As anyone who knows anything about how the internet works will tell you, DNS updates can be a pain. It can take up to 72 hours to get the new IP globally known so I apologise for the lengthy downtime! The good news is that I now have a rock solid Linux box doing all my routing. I can also ban trouble makers from my entire network (before I could only issue bans on a per-daemon basis). The router configuration is not final by any means yet so you should expect patchy service (though hopefully no more DNS updates). For those interested, here is my new server:

A Cobalt Qube 2 - MIPS RM5231 @ 250MHz with 80MB of RAM running Gentoo with CoLo bootloader.

The old router is still in place and is serving as a temporary wireless accesspoint (it still crashes occasionally even when that is its only function! I'm never buying Linksys again) until I can get a hold of a Linux compatible wireless PCI card for my Qube.

*Update*
I can't believe it. Just as my DNS had updated... my ISP assigns me yet another new address! Now I have to wait for this one.
